Without routine visits to the dentist office, patients can face gum disease, oral cancers, and missing teeth. Dental anxiety is one of the leading factors in poor oral health among adults today. Many patients suffer with complex dental problems that can affect their daily quality of life due to a fear of visiting the dentist. Avoiding the dentist can cause many costly issues down the road. Gum disease treatment and dental implants from missing teeth can cost a person thousands of dollars. The key to addressing your dental anxiety is to discuss your fears with Dr. Tracey Hughes, a Lafayette, CO dentist, so that those fears can be addressed. She provides you with a welcoming, warm, caring and personalized atmosphere in addition to sedation dentistry.

Sedation Dentistry What to Expect
Dr. Hughes offers a safe, judgement free dentist office in the Lafayette, CO area. She will first want to meet with you to get to know you and learn more about your fears. She will ask you many questions to start the process of helping you through the emotional challenges of completing dental care and to gain your trust.
Next, she will prescribe you an anti-anxiety/sedation medication that you will get filled at the pharmacy. She will give you specific instructions on what medication to take and at what time to ensure you will have an extremely safe and comfortable sedation dental experience. You will likely be instructed to take 1 anti-anxiety pill the night before the appointment to help you get a better night sleep.
On the day of your appointment, you will take a 2nd pill exactly one hour before your appointment. After you take the pill, patients will remain conscious but will not feel any pain. You must have a responsible adult escort to and from your appointment as oral medications will impair your ability to drive.
You will need to also bring the remaining pills with you to your appointment so Dr. Hughes can administer them during your visit to achieve the optimal level of sedation for you to comfortably complete your dental care in the most relaxed state. After your appointment, you will be driven home to rest and should wake up with very little memory of even being in the dentist office!
