Tony was in today wondering what we could do to close the gap (also known as a “Diastema”)  between his front two teeth.  After talking about several options, he decided the best option for him was to have direct composite bonding. 

A very simple, one appointment procedure was completed today by using a conditioner on his front two teeth.  Dr. Hughes then used a bonding agent which was cured with an LED curing light.  Composite resin, which comes in several different shades of tooth color, is then shaped to the teeth.  The composite resin is also cured with an LED curing light.  Final contouring and shaping gives the following results for many years to come:

Joelyn initially visited me in our office almost 2 years ago at which time she had lost all hope with her teeth.  Having extremely bad dental experiences in the past, she explained how she was verbally abused everytime she would visit a dental office.  She was terrifed to sit in our dental chair, anticipating the worst.  She stated to me back then that she had come to terms with the fact she would be needing dentures.

Joy is a guest in our practice who has been suffering from headache and TMJ pain for several years.  After interviewing her, we were determined her bite to be a contributing factor of her chronic head and neck pain.  Joy also had been desiring a more youthful, brighter smile.

First I interviewed Joy, asking her several questions about her long term goals for her dental health and smile.  In our office, we ask several questions to find out what our guests want as opposed to telling people what they need.  

After completing a neuromuscular screening evaluation, we determined that Joy’s overclosed bite indeed was a factor in her TMJ and headache pain.  We used a Tensing machine to relax the muscles involved in chewing and jaw function.  After relaxing the mucles of the TMJ and neck, I was able to create a bite registration which was sent to a laboratory with her diagnostic models.  From these records, the dental laboratory was able to create a removable occlusal orthotic, a clear acrylic appliance worn on the lower teeth.  The orthotic recreates the bite of the lower teeth to the upper teeth in the most relaxed muscular position, allowing a more comfortable bite and “happier muscles”, reducing and even eliminating headache, neck and TMJ pain.

Joy wore her orthtoic for over a month and found her headaches were much less frequent and the facial tightness she was experinecing was eliminated.  We now had a correct bite position to move forward with her cosmetic makeover.

We completed 7 porcelain Empress Esthetic Veneers and Empress Esthetic Crowns.  The most posterior two teeth on each side have hidden XPdent VKS attachments which anchor her upper partial denture.

Updating old dentistry…

Cathy came to our office “I just had a new crown replaced and I don’t like the space by the gum, I catch food and it is embarrasing”  Cathy was in a car accident in high school and knocked out her front 2 teeth #7 and 8 on the upper right.  She has an existing porcelain fused to metal bridge to replace those missing two teeth years ago and a recent porcelain fused to metal crown #10 (upper left 2nd from the middle).   Additional concern she had was her teeth looked yellow and she wanted a whiter smile.

Two visits later, we were able to update Cathy’s outdated dentistry with beautiful new porcelain metal-free restorations.  We fabricated her new smile using our master Cermist from Las Vegas Esthetics, who hand crafted the beautiful, nautral, ceramic Porcelain Crown, Veneers and Bridge restorations for Cathy’s upper 10 teeth. 

Cathy has been receiving endless compliments about her new smile.  She is enjoying smiling with her brighter smile and plans to continue by having her lower front teeth veneered as well.
