Inlays and Onlays as Aesthetic Alternatives to Mercury Amalgam Fillings- Louisville Dentist, Boulder Dentistry

Dr. Tracey Hughes, leading cosmetic dentist in Louisville, Colorado, has questions daily about how her guests back chewing molar and premolar teeth can look good, feel good and last a long time.  When we get to know new guests in our Boulder County cosmetic dental practice, they often admit the frustration of having to have old mercury amalgam fillings  in back teeth replaced one at a time as they wear out, chip and fracture.   This is true, Mercury Amalgam Fillings were the standard of care in the past with many of these restorations lasting 10-20 years if not longer, however, it is not uncommon for these  metal restorations to weaken the chewing cusps, often leading to a crack in the tooth.  As the mercury amalgam fillings age, they undergo expansion and contraction, eventually causing a gap between the filling and the tooth and leakage of bacteria and decay under the filling.  With advancements in adhesives, composite resin and porcelain, we can now eliminate this problem.

Composite and Porcelain Inlays and Onlays have surpassed the long time standard of the Mercury Amalgam Filling.  Inlays and onlays are functional, aesthetic, minimally invasive, tooth reinforcing, biocompatible and last longer than traditional silver and tooth colored “fillings”.  Dr. Tracey Hughes is passionate about providing her guests in the Louisville, Boulder, Broomfield area with the type of lasting restorations she places in the mouths of her own family.
