Old porcelain crowns with a mismatched shade (above)
New E-Max porcelain crowns with a custom shade from our laboratory. (above)
Many people have had dental work done on their front teeth in the past, but they start to notice as time goes on, maybe it doesn’t match as well as it used to (or maybe it never matched good from the beginning!)
We discovered decay on the x-ray of the two teeth to the left from the middle. Matching single front teeth can be a big challenge for many dentists. Dr. Hughes works with a lab that the patient can actually visit to have a custom shade match, such as the porcelain crowns done in the photos above.
This treatment took two separate visits. The first visit, approximately 60 minutes, the patient was numbed and the old crowns were removed very easily. An impression was taken of the prepred teeth and temporary crowns were made. The patient drove to our lab in Lafayette where they used a digital instrument to custom match the shade of his adjacent natural teeth. Finally, two weeks later the patient returned to our office for 30 minutes to have the temporary crowns removed and new E-Max porcelain crowns bonded with resin cement. (resin is the material used in modern tooth colored fillings)
Many people think the work they’ve had done in the past is the best it can be, however, if you are wondering if your dentistry that shows in your smile doesn’t match as well as you’de like, we welcome you to contact Dr. Tracey Hughes, an LVI trained Cosmetic Dentist. Denver new patients are always welcome!
